About Me
I am into tasty yet relatively simple food. No stars on the Food Network need worry. I like to share things I learn. Additionally, With inflation and food shortages and the possibility of the need for extreme budget meals, some forethought is required.
I find many people watch and read about food prep yet never get off the couch.
I would like to change that.
Below is an overview of your host.
Donald is a well-seasoned (mostly salt) Senior Communication/I.T. tech., an annoyingly enthusiastic science (especially Botany) fan, someone who will start a project to have a project, a gardener, and a guy who grew up in a chef’s household.
PROFESSIONALLY
I'm passionate about building things, from splicing fiber optic cables to installing the equipment to transmit the light on the fiber, building a cabinet or framing a house, making my own pasta, or the never-ending search for the perfect brisket.
It’s combining the materials and, in the end, stepping back
and seeing what I have achieved.
I spent two tours in
the Army, had a primary and secondary MOS (Job). Then spent quality time in the
reserve.
Then, I spent a few decades keeping the data flowing. I attended numerous trade schools and picked up my degree about 15 years ago, and that was only because I was seriously considering management. Then, I passed on Management.
PERSONALLY
I enjoy growing
things, a wide range of music and will fish a news article out of the trash to
learn of the latest scientific breakthrough.
As mentioned above, I
grew up in a chef’s household. My mother was Senior Chef for years and then
moved up to Sous Chef and finally Executive Chef. But she started at the bottom.
We could only talk or chat casually when she was cooking and I was helping. The
rest of the time, I was in trouble for something. Most of the time, I deserved
it. I was not above pushing my luck.
I also experienced poverty; I know exactly
what government (USDA) rice, pinto beans, and peanut butter taste like. I have dined at a Salvation Army and my mother bought my school clothes from Goodwill.
I am also familiar with
government housing, which made me believe in self-defense because
there is never a cop around when you need one…….
Years passed, I enlisted (11b & 31v), and after my second tour, I got married, etc..….
I was speaking to my granddaughter, and she had no idea how to cook anything that was not prepackaged. So after mentioning that to my cousin Betty, who suggested I show her………..and here we are.
That said, it’s been
sooo long since I have done any serious cooking, I might as well be starting
from scratch.
Please join me as we
cover basic and complex cooking, including the tools
used.
The proper tools can take the work out of cooking and turn it into something to look forward to; if nothing else, your distant relatives can accuse you of being a prepper.
